CSAP Questionnaire

The answer to Question 5 is ‘C’ - During the week of CSAP.

In 2004 over 1,000 children and their parents said “NO” to the CSAP.  Another 5,000 did not complete the test correctly for various reasons, and more than 6,000 children were unfairly assigned -0.5 (negative point five — the same score as unsatisfactory), contaminating summary data and invalidating individual school improvement ratings.  School administrators may likely complain of the short-term effects and the negative impact on their schools’ rating, and the governor will try to bully you into compliance.

Of course, if we as parents continue to comply with a system that undermines the learning and thinking of our children, then we have sacrificed far more than a school label.  The responsibility for a wasteful and misguided system, infecting our classrooms, corrupting our schools, and compromising our children, will be our own.
